Sometimes we need little pick-me-ups when we are feeling down or when we are trying to make sense of what is going on around us. I always rolled my eyes when someone would say something so continual or something that came out of a fortune cookie. But once I got a little older and experienced a little more, I realized there are just some cliche sayings that will always be worth listening to.
1. You’ll Never Know Until You Try
Debating with yourself on whether to do something can be a never ending one-sided conversation. From something little as to trying seafood (which I still refuse to do), or as big as zip lining hundreds of feet over a forest (which I did in the Caribbean), it all means the same. We convince ourselves that whatever we are afraid of accomplishing, will just never happen, so why try it in the first place? But I’ve learned that even if you attempt something and fail it still counts because you can always learn from it. Like when you aren’t sure if you are qualified for a job position, or you’re afraid to confront your boss about something serious. Or when your boyfriend wants you to move to Sweden with him for a year and you decide to go with him, just you and your passport. (Hint: This blog may take a huge cultural turn in the future). All I know is that it’s better to not live in fear and just do it anyway, because you may be gaining more than you’d be losing.
2. Tomorrow’s Another Day
Ever have a day that’s so bad, all you want to do is sit in your bed and feel sorry for yourself? Like those days when you wake up and already have a headache and then sit in traffic on the way to work. And while you’re at work everything just seems to be going wrong and you feel overwhelmed or like nothing you’re doing is right. When you’re finally off of work you just get bombarded with all these thoughts about what you need to pay for and how you have no money to pay for it and you wonder if you could be happier than you are now and how to achieve it. Well, since worrying is something we all face at some point, isn’t it nice to know that we get brand new days. The sun will always set and we know it’s going to shine the next day, so why worry? We are given a fresh start everyday and there’s a reason for that. Which leads me into my last point.
3. Everything Happens For a Reason
Probably the most heard quote of all time and it happens to be one of my favorites. It is just a good philosophy to live by if you wish to stay happy all the time. Because as we know, life throws us things we don’t expect or can’t control. Like why someone we love passed away. Or when we don’t get the job for our dream position. Or when we don’t have the time or money to go on vacation. Or when we are just stuck in a rut and can’t get out. I know there’s a reason for it. There’s a reason why you stand where you stand and even if it’s where you don’t want to be, you just have to trust that better things are coming.
