In the process of coming to terms that this is our new normal, I found my mind wandering about all the jobs being affected by the pandemic and how people might be navigating the workplace.
There is currently close to 30 million people in the U.S. without jobs due to COVID-19. And although it may be at a slow pace, I do believe that companies will do their best to hire again soon.
Companies, including the consulting firm I work for, are adapting quite rapidly to this new normal and how to be most effective while working from home. Some may adapt quicker than others but I think the world will realize just how much we can accomplish remotely considering the high-tech and digital world we’ve created. But until employers can catch up to this new way of working, we still need jobs.
My heart goes out to college graduates who might be wondering what their employment status will look like in a few months. While I’m not here to be negative about the situation, I would be lying if I said it was going to be easy to find long-term jobs within the next few months to year. It’s going to be hard.
So many companies have had to let their amazing employees go and can’t hire again until they can afford to do so. So where does that leave the rest of us? Well, what I do know is that there are a long list of jobs you CAN get within the next few months, even if it’s not exactly what you expected.
I think many people, especially those just starting out their careers, can use this time period as a true test to what good work ethic actually means and what navigating the workplace might look like for the time being.
Jobs that are hiring
I’ve recently shared a blog post on actual ways to Make Extra Money from Home. So, definitely check that out for some quick remote jobs!
Here are a list of companies that are currently hiring:
Food and convenience stores
- Albertsons Companies
- Dollar Tree
- Pizza Hut
- Papa John’s
- Uber Eats
Alternatively, if you’re interested in something a little more time-consuming, I highly recommend using this time to learn new skills like building a website, coding, monetizing an online small business or even taking online courses.
To any new graduates out there, just because you have the degree, does not mean you will ever stop learning. There are SO many skills and industries to learn and what better time than the present when there is literally nothing else to do.
Online jobs, platforms and marketing tools I personally recommend learning includes Salesforce tools like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Marketo, Microsite and website building, social media management, Influencer marketing, virtual assistance and online teaching to foreign language students.
There are SO many endless opportunities to learn and potentially drive a career, whether temporarily or long-term, online. Just takes a little creativity and desire to keep learning what’s out there.
