Once I arrived at my first VRBO in Northern California over Memorial Day Weekend on the coast of South Lake Tahoe, I immediately fell in love. After weeks and weeks of searching for a place to stay in the midst of coronavirus, we finally found the perfect, luxurious, spacious house where we could social distance, relax, be in the middle of nature and get a break from our tiny Bay Area apartment.
I wrote a separate blog post; The Difference Between VRBO & Airbnb which includes the details for that house, so be sure to check it out if you’re still interested in booking it.
Since so many of you showed interest in where I was staying, I knew I had to partner with VRBO. Now I have a great incentive to bring you the best VRBOs out there and can’t wait to share what I find. If you’re interested in booking a home rental either now or in the future, please use my links as I will receive commission for it! Thank you in advance xx
If you’ve never heard of VRBO, it stands for “Vacation Rentals by Owner.” It’s like Airbnb but there is a slight difference. VRBO caters to larger groups of families and/or friends, is private and bit more luxurious.
VRBO is going to transform the way you travel because now you have the opportunity to experience luxury, with the privacy from your very own home rental. As the long-term state of COIVD-19 continues to be unknown, we need to adapt and learn to travel smarter and safely in the meantime.
So with further ado, here are my top VRBO in Northern California in some of my favorite destinations for under $300 a night:
South Lake Tahoe
The most magical, beautiful and coziest place in the world! Okay, maybe I’m a bit biased since I’ve been 7x already, but Lake Tahoe is my absolute favorite place in California, and for good reason. It’s snowy, wintery, ski-heavy vibes make it a wonderland in the winter and the warm weather, beaches and clear water lakes make it an ultimate getaway dream in the summer. Whenever people ask me what’s so great about Lake Tahoe, I always say…everything.
Waterfront Luxury Escape – Huge, Private Boat Dock, Water Views, Jacuzzi Tub. Average price for the entire home is $244 a night.
Peaceful Inverness – New kitchen, Big Dock, Hot Tub, Views, 1st Floor Living. Average price for the entire home is $232 a night.
Spacious house w/ Board Games, Close to Heavenly & Mountain Views. Average price for the entire home is $253 a night.
Bedroom Tahoe Home – Located Near the Tahoe Paradise Park. Das Waldhaus. Average price for the entire home is $232 a night.
Heavenly Adventure – Luxury Mountain Home, Pool Table, Hot Tub. Average price for the entire home is $313 a night.
Ahh yes one of the most infamous national parks in the country. This is a bucket list item for so many – although I will argue Lake Tahoe should surpass it first :). Yosemite is truly as amazing as everyone says it is because there are endless things to do and places to explore. It can take several days to see all of this park’s beauty, so you might as well find a cozy house for your stay.
Beautiful and Spacious Country Home w/Hot Tub Located in the Gateway to Yosemite. Average price for the entire home is $215 a night.
Rustic luxury hideaway on 40 private acres – recently renovated. Average price for the entire home is $285 a night.
Beautiful Lodge with Views and Hot Tub – Nestled Near the Mountains of Yosemite. Average price for the entire home is $232 a night.
Wine Country! Simply stunning is the only way to describe this majestic land of vineyards and sunshine. Napa is such an unbelievably beautiful place and the wine really is as good as everyone says. I had a really hard time finding VRBOs that were up to my standards AND that didn’t have a 30 day minimum stay. Culturally, the house rentals in Napa seem to be for more longterm stays. The one I found below only has a 7 day minimum stay and is gorgeous!
Remodeled Fairways Home Steps to Pool/Spa, 5 Min Dwtn & Winery, 2 Patios, Grill. Average price for the entire home is $296 a night.
Coastlines and sunsets. One of the best drives I’ve ever been on with the most breathtaking views. Big Sur has vista points at every turn, waterfalls at the end of trails and sunsets that will bring you to your knees. Everyone needs to do this drive at least once in their life.
Inspiring Oceanfront Home with Dramatic Coastal Views. Average price for the entire home is $295 a night.
Charming Coastal Cottage Comfortable Living Indoor and Out. Average price for the entire home is $235 a night.
Charming House in Carmel Valley Wine Country. Average price for the entire home is $264 a night.
There you have it. Gorgeous affordable houses in amazing locations, and that’s only a small portion of what I came across. I encourage you to browse the many locations and houses that VRBO offers, in order to make your next getaway truly memorable.
The next VRBO Guide will feature Southern California!
Happy travels xx
